Country Chic Bunk Bed Makeover
So in one afternoon, me (a very much pregnant lady) painted this entire vintage bunk bed for my daughter, completely by hand. We got this solid pine bed from a local facebook seller for under $150. I let my 4 year old pick out fabric from the local quilting store to go underneath the top bunk. And then it was off to my store to let her to pick out any Country Chic Paint color she wanted. She opted for Cherry Blossom. It took One quart and One pint to do the entire bed with two coats. We finished with Pearl Wax.
With a hand painting project this easy, and a great American chalk based paint that has zero VOCs, I can't even imagine going back to using latex or spray paint for my home DIY projects.
Here is the breakdown of the work and the photos of the completed bed in her room.
My daughter had covered the bed in stickers, so we set everything out, did a quick sanding, then wiped everything down with a damp cloth for our prep. Total prep time was under 30 minutes.
We started painting with the long rails and finished the larger head and foot board panels. By the time we had the first coat on the entire bed, the rails were ready for their second coat. We let the paint fully dry overnight and set it up in her room the next day.
To me, one of the best parts of using Country Chic Paint is knowing that your kids can help with your project safely without breathing in any harmful fumes or getting chemicals on their skin. My daughter loved working on her bed.
We added the pearl wax the following weekend.
OK, I know the fabric and the paint don't exactly match but that's how it is when you let your kids decide what they are getting, we make it work, right? I added the blue fish to the front of the bed to tie in the animal theme and the blue fabric. And her doll has a blue and pink dress on, so viola! And the finishing touch - her top bunk is teddy-ville.
Our store is open at 151 N Mill Street in Tehachapi between 10am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday.
Come visit us to pick up some paint for your next project. We can show you how to use the paint and you can even hire us to do custom painting jobs if there is a great project at your house that you just haven't gotten to yet.
